Democracy needs academic freedom, and academic freedom needs democracy.

But how do we protect both? How vulnerable is our freedom? These questions will be explored in two special exhibitions at TH Wildau from October 1 through November 13, 2026. The additional workshops are designed to strengthen participants’ ability to engage in constructive discussions on a democratic basis.

In our daily interactions, a wide variety of opinions, perspectives, and values come into contact with one another. This gives rise to challenges and conflicts in our coexistence that can lead to social polarization. Suddenly, it becomes “us against them.” In such situations, claims to absolute truth clash, and there is little willingness to compromise. But how can we resolve this situation so that we can once again listen to one another, engage with one another, and have constructive discussions—both at work and in our daily lives?

Based on a respectful approach, the principles of nonviolent communication, and systemic counseling, this training session focuses on developing practical strategies for action. It is important to point out grievances, problematic statements, and differing positions—but without belittling the other person. This requires a changed, new culture of communication! The training aims to provide a framework that enables participants to set boundaries, point out problems, and clarify their own position in a constructive manner that is less confrontational and fosters cooperation on an equal footing.

The training sessions are led by two certified coaches from Gegen Vergessen – für Demokratie e. V. Association.
