Support for Transfer Activities

Alongside research and teaching, knowledge transfer is a key aspect of TH Wildau. The provision in the Brandenburg Higher Education Act allowing for the appointment of professorships with a focus on knowledge transfer provides TH Wildau with an effective tool for supporting knowledge transfer activities. The goal of awarding transfer professorships is to sustainably promote knowledge and technology transfer at TH Wildau by granting reduced teaching loads in conjunction with agreements on the transfer objectives to be achieved through the professorship.

In accordance with Section 50(4) of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG), transfer professors play a key role in knowledge and technology transfer projects or in cross-cutting tasks within knowledge and technology transfer (“transfer tasks”). Existing transfer profiles are to be expanded, and new transfer profiles of strategic importance to TH Wildau are to be developed. This is intended to increase the visibility of TH Wildau’s transfer activities. Research and transfer topics at TH Wildau are strongly practice-oriented and application-focused; researchers should therefore be made more aware of this at an early stage in their careers and thus be involved in and supported for such transfer activities from the outset. Networking and cooperation should be specifically promoted with both internal and external stakeholders in line with the expanded concept of transfer as defined in the State of Brandenburg’s transfer strategy.

Procurement PrinciplesOpen areaClose area

At TH Wildau, transfer professorships are awarded to tenured professors who are not on secondment or on leave of absence, up to a maximum of 10% of the total number of professorial positions at TH Wildau. Research professorships and transfer professorships may not be combined. The term of the appointment is limited to a maximum of five years, depending on the transfer assignment. Appointments are generally made simultaneously and may be renewed for the same person. The term is usually tied to the semester schedule. For the duration of a transfer professorship, the teaching load is 9 semester hours per week.

Procedure for the ProcurementOpen areaClose area

The President of TH Wildau will inform the university community in a timely manner about the upcoming appointment and thereby invite applications for one or more transfer professorships. Information will also be provided regarding the timeline of the process (submission of applications, decision by the evaluation committee, start of the appointment period).

All tenured professors at TH Wildau who are not on secondment or on leave of absence may submit their applications for a transfer professorship in writing to the Vice President for Research and Transfer in accordance with the announced schedule. The decision on the appointment of a transfer professorship rests with the Executive Board of TH Wildau upon the recommendation of an evaluation committee. The contents of the application and the criteria for its evaluation can be found in the Statutes Governing the Award of Professorships with a Focus on Transfer.

The certificate for the transfer professorship is awarded by the President of TH Wildau at the beginning of each semester during a public university event. At this event, the transfer professors present their concepts and goals for the term of the respective transfer professorship.

Current Procurement Process for 2026Open areaClose area

All tenured professors at TH Wildau who are not on secondment or leave of absence may submit their application for a transfer professorship by March 15, 2026 for the appointment period beginning in the 2025/2026 winter semester in writing to the Vice President for Research and Transfer using the template provided here.

This appointment process explicitly addresses multi-year transfer tasks. The term of the transfer professorships is limited to a maximum of five years, depending on the transfer task. The application must specify a term deemed appropriate for the transfer task.

In accordance with Section 50(4) of the BbgHG, transfer professors play a key role in knowledge and technology transfer projects or in cross-cutting tasks within knowledge and technology transfer (= transfer task). Applicants may either apply with a self-defined transfer task in accordance with the criteria set forth in the bylaws or focus on one of the two transfer tasks proposed by the Executive Board and deemed strategically relevant to the university:

1. Further development of collaboration with non-university research institutions in the region

  • Assessment of the current situation in Berlin-Brandenburg and analysis of the status quo of existing collaborations
  • Identification of opportunities for further development
  • Development of a concept with an action plan and implementation of initial steps with support from the Executive Board and the ZFT

2. Strengthening the role of TH Wildau in the regional innovation system

  • Contributing TH Wildau’s interests and expertise to regional development through dialogue with stakeholders, including municipalities, counties, and federal states
  • Actively representing the university in working groups, such as those related to Dahme_Innovation or the Berlin-Lausitz Innovation Corridor
  • Initiating regional development projects with support from the Executive Board and the ZFT

The selection committee will conduct a preliminary screening of the applications received and invite suitable candidates to an interview with the committee members (in April 2026). The members of the selection committee are:

  • Prof. Dr. Klaus-Martin Melzer, Vice President for Research and Transfer, Chair
  • Prof. Dr. Sandra Haas, Department of Economics, Computer Science, and Law
  • Prof. Dr. Ute Geißler, Department of Engineering and Natural Sciences
  • Markus Vossel, Center for Research and Transfer
  • TBD, Center for Studies and Teaching
  • Prof. Dr. Peter Heisig, Potsdam University of Applied Sciences

The decision on the awarding of the transfer professorships will be made by the Executive Board, tentatively in June 2026. The presentation of the certificates for the transfer professorships will then take place during a university-wide public event presided over by the President. At this event, the transfer professors will present their concepts and goals for the term of their respective transfer professorships.
