Support for Research Activities
Alongside technology transfer and teaching, research is a key component at TH Wildau. For years, the university has been among the leading research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Germany and addresses current topics in basic and applied research. The Brandenburg Higher Education Act provides TH Wildau with the opportunity to establish research professorships, offering an effective tool for supporting research activities.
The goal of awarding research professorships is to sustainably promote research at TH Wildau by granting reductions in teaching loads in conjunction with agreements on the research objectives to be achieved through the professorship. The aim is to expand existing research profiles or develop new ones of strategic importance to TH Wildau. Early-career researchers are to receive increased support for their research activities. Networking and cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders are to be specifically promoted in this context.
Procurement PrinciplesOpen areaClose area
At TH Wildau, up to four research professorships are awarded for a fixed term of five years to tenured professors at TH Wildau who are not on secondment or on leave of absence. The appointments are generally made simultaneously, and the same person may be reappointed. The term is generally tied to the semester schedule. For the duration of a research professorship, the teaching load is 9 semester hours per week.
Procedure for the Award ProcessOpen areaClose area
The President of TH Wildau informs the university community in a timely manner about the upcoming appointment (approximately 9 months before the end of the five-year cycle) and thereby invites applications for one or more research professorships. Information is also provided regarding the timeline of the process (submission of applications, decision by the evaluation committee, start of the appointment period).
All tenured professors at TH Wildau who are not on secondment or leave of absence may submit their applications for a research professorship in writing to the Vice President for Research and Transfer in accordance with the announced schedule. The decision to award a research professorship rests with the Executive Board of TH Wildau upon the recommendation of an evaluation committee. The contents of the application and the criteria for its evaluation can be found in the Statutes on the Awarding of Professorships with a Focus on Research.
The certificate for the research professorship is awarded by the President of TH Wildau at the beginning of each semester during a public university event. At this event, the research professors present their concepts and goals for the term of the respective research professorship.
Current Award Process - 2026-2031Open areaClose area
As part of a replacement appointment, all tenured professors at TH Wildau who are not on secondment or on leave may by March 15, 2026 submit their application for a research professorship for the appointment period from the 2026/ 2027 through the summer semester of 2031 using the template provided here to the Vice President for Research and Transfer.
The selection committee will then preselect from among the applications received and invite suitable candidates to an interview before the committee. Members of the selection committee are:
- Prof. Dr. Klaus-Martin Melzer, Vice President for Research and Transfer, Chair
- Prof. Dr. Sandra Haas, Department of Economics, Computer Science, and Law
- Prof. Dr. Ute Geißler, Department of Engineering and Natural Sciences
- Markus Vossel, Center for Research and Transfer
- TBD, Center for Studies and Teaching
- Prof. Dr. Peter Heisig, Potsdam University of Applied Sciences
The decision regarding the appointment to the vacant research professorship will be madeby the Executive Board, tentatively in June 2026. The certificate for the research professorship will then be presented by the President during a university-wide public event. At this event, the research professor will present the concepts and goals for the term of the research professorship.
The term of the research professorship to be filled begins on September 1, 2026. Halfway through the term (approximately early 2029) and at the end of the term (late 2031), the research professor will submit a brief, written self-assessment report on the goals achieved to the Vice President for Research and Transfer. In addition, the results achieved will be presented at an event open to the university community.
