Participant information for the HSP-Surf Courses in Rantum at Sylt

Arrival:

Arrival is on your own.
By train: to Westerland station and from there by bus (line 2 towards Hörnum) to the “Rantum Nord” stop

By car: to Niebüll and from there by car train (Sylt Shuttle or blue Sylt car train) to Westerland station. From there head south or towards Rantum to the TUI BLUE Hotel Sylt.

Meeting point:

Arrival at the TUI BLUE Hotel Sylt is between 13:00 and 14:00 on the first day of the course.

Course schedule:

The surfing courses are organized in cooperation with the university sports offices of the universities of Hamburg, Kiel and Wuppertal. They provide an introduction to surfing (Sylt is considered one of the best surfing areas in northern Germany). In addition to board techniques (board familiarization, paddle position, etc.), gliding in white water rollers (broken waves), take-off and diving techniques are taught and practised. If the conditions and individual requirements are right, the course will also move on to the start in the “green wave” (unbroken wave). For participants with previous surfing experience, the stand-up movement, dive-through techniques and take-off in the “green wave” are repeated and consolidated and initial experience is gained in the bottom turn and cut-back techniques. Theoretical knowledge, including material science, tides, safety aspects, weather and wave science are covered during the course. On the day of arrival, the groups sit down with the instructors and discuss the course schedule.

Services:

5-day beginner's surfing course (water and theory units), equipment (soft and/or hard boards and wetsuit), accommodation in type 2 apartments at the TUI BLUE Hotel Sylt (5 people per apartment), use of the sports and wellness facilities at the TUI BUE Sylt Hotel (basketball, beach volleyball, swimming pool, sauna) on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th day of the course, resort tax if applicable

What to bring with you:

Swimwear, cap, windproof jacket, waterproof sunscreen

Other activities:

Bicycles can be rented at the TUI BLUE Hotel Sylt for a fee. The sports and wellness facilities of the TUI BUE Sylt hotel (basketball, beach volleyball, swimming pool, sauna) can be used free of charge on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th day of the course.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is in type 2 apartments at the TUI BLUE Hotel Sylt (5 people per apartment). Rooms will only be allocated on the 1st day on site!

Catering:

You are responsible for your own meals. The apartments are equipped with cooking facilities and refrigerators.

Insurance:

During the surfing course, insurance cover (liability) is provided by the cooperating water sports school. The instructions of the instructors must be followed. The participant is liable for any damage to equipment caused by negligence. Further information will be provided at the start of the course.
