TH Wildau expands international relations: Cooperation with partner university in Vietnam
Since its foundation in 1991, the TH Wildau has cooperated with around 150 universities in over 60 countries on all continents and is constantly expanding its international relations. Recently, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau established a new partnership with the Vietnamese-German University in Vietnam. In the future, interfaces in teaching and research will be used and student and teacher exchanges will be expanded.
In July 2022, the consortium association of the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) accepted the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TH Wildau) as a new member. The Vietnamese-German University was founded in 2008 and belongs to the group of binational universities that have been continuously established with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) since 2001. The VGU offers English degree programmes for around 1,700 students at two faculties, Engineering and Economics & Management. In addition to the TH Wildau's involvement in the consortium association of the German-Kazakh University and exchange relations with the German-Jordanian University, the Wildau University is now linked to another binational university. This university not only has similar faculties to the TH Wildau, but in the area of research is primarily dedicated to the topics of transport and sustainability. This opens up interfaces in teaching and research for future cooperation between the two universities.
"Ten students from Vietnam are currently studying at TH Wildau," says Karin Schmidt, Head of the International Office. "We would be delighted if this number were to increase in the future. Conversely, it is equally important to us that many Wildau students have the opportunity to gain experience abroad in such an exciting and diverse country as Vietnam through this partnership."
Background
Vietnam has been in a process of restructuring its higher education system for some time now, with the main aim of incorporating more practical elements. Since 2006, the government has also been pushing and supporting the internationalisation of universities through national and institutional initiatives and funding. The establishment of "Excellent Universities" in cooperation with major industrial nations is intended to advance the autonomisation of universities and their research capacities in an exemplary manner. The VGU was the first university in Vietnam to be founded with foreign participation.
