Successful conclusion of the 2nd German-Cuban Summer School "International Logistics" at TH Wildau

The second German-Cuban Summer School "International Logistics" at TH Wildau ended on 20 July 2023. Seven German and five Cuban students took part in the programme, which began in February with the Winter School in Havana. It is being held as part of the DAAD-funded project "Strengthening Competences of Industrial Engineers in Cuba for Sustainability and Responsibility in supply chains - SCIEnC(e) 4 SuRe" in cooperation between TH Wildau and TU Havana.

The second German-Cuban Summer School "International Logistics" at the Wildau University of Applied Sciences (TH Wildau) ended on 20 July 2023. Seven German and five Cuban students took part in the programme. After a successful e-assessment exam and an intensive programme in the run-up, Prof. Jörg Reiff-Stephan, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at TH Wildau, and the two coordinators Prof. Gaby Neumann from TH Wildau and Prof. Igor Lopes Martinez from the Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana José Antonio Echeverría (CUJAE) presented the final certificates.

At the same time, the event marked the end of the second full cycle of the Winter/Summer School "International Logistics" as part of the DAAD-funded project "Strengthening Competences of Industrial Engineers in Cuba for Sustainability and Responsibility in supply chains - SCIEnC(e) 4 SuRe", which TH Wildau is implementing together with TU Havana (CUJAE). The aim of the project is to further develop the study programme at CUJAE in the field of industrial engineering in a future-oriented manner and to create sustainable academic capacities - both in terms of personnel and infrastructure - for implementation. With the help of the know-how transfer, a modern, practice-oriented education will be adapted to the economic framework conditions in Cuba, a Supply Chain 4.0 laboratory will be established and a multinational network of experts will be developed.

Procedure of the international teaching cooperation

An important component of the cooperation is the student exchange. The German-Cuban Winter/Summer School brings German and Cuban students together. In February of this year, seven Wildau students from the Bachelor's degree programmes in Logistics and Industrial Engineering and Management were guests at the Winter School in Havana and were able to establish contact with Cuban students there.

Now the Cuban students of the Summer School were guests in Wildau: In addition to lectures, the programme included short projects in companies, laboratory exercises, company visits, a poster session and the final e-assessment exam. In the time between the attendance blocks, the students worked in mixed teams on a simulation project, carried out a business game on the topic of sustainability and created scientific posters on individual aspects of sustainability.

Prof. Gaby Neumann, coordinator of the programme at TH Wildau: "We are pleased that the second round of the Winter/Summer School has now also come to a successful conclusion. It is a great experience for everyone involved - both students and teachers - and an important component in promoting international cooperation as part of our university's internationalisation strategy."

Prof. Igor Lopes Martinez, coordinator on the CUJAE side: "Our cooperation with TH Wildau, which has already existed for 14 years, shows how profitable international exchange programmes and networks are. Competences are strengthened, study and teaching content is expanded and opportunities for further development are offered. I am already looking forward to further joint projects."

At the end of the Winter/Summer School, all participants concluded the past weeks and months with a relaxed barbecue event with sports and games on campus.
