In a virtual ceremony on 21 January 2021, the German-Kazakh University (DKU) awarded nine colleagues with an honorary professorship for their services to DKU. One of the honorary professorships was awarded to the former Vice President of TH Wildau, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Sonntag.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Sonntag, former vice-president, logistics professor and head of the transport logistics research group at University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TH Wildau), received an honorary professorship at the German-Kazakh University (DKU) on 21 January 2021. This makes him one of nine colleagues who were honoured by the DKU's academic council for their services to the development of the university on an international level. Other honorary professorships went to members of the partner universities in Schmalkalden, Zwickau, Mittweida, Zittau/Görlitz and Hamburg (HAW).

Longstanding German-Kazakh Partnership

Since 2008, TH Wildau has been involved with other partner universities at DKU in setting up, organising, and implementing study programmes that enable Kazakh students to study both at DKU's location in Almaty and at German universities. The commitment is supported by the Federal Foreign Office and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

At this time, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sonntag was, among other things, responsible as vice-president for the development and expansion of the international contacts of TH Wildau, as well as being active as a lecturer in the development of the cooperation with the DKU. He is still involved in teaching logistics at DKU today.

Logistics Degree Programme Successfully Exported

The German-Kazakh University was recently named the fifth best university in the country by the Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce. DKU was able to score points with top positions in, among others, the Logistics and International Relations and Marketing study programmes.
