A large number of interested visitors attended the TH Wildau University Open Day 2026
Last Saturday, 30 May, the varied programme of the TH Wildau University Open Day attracted numerous visitors to the campus. In glorious weather, those interested were able to find out about the university’s degree programmes and services at over 40 stands, explore the grounds and buildings on campus tours, and gain fascinating practical insights in the laboratories.
At the 2026 University Open Day (HIT) held by the Technische Hochschule Wildau – Technical University of Applied Sciences on 30 May, visitors were able to find out about the wide range of degree programmes on offer, gain fascinating insights into laboratories, research projects and organisational units, and talk directly to students and teachers. Prof. Ulrike Tippe, President of TH Wildau, and Frank Nerlich, Mayor of the university town of Wildau, opened the day at 10 am on the campus. Susanne Trotzki, presenter at radioSKW, hosted the programme.
Dancing robots, flight simulators, virtual reality and more
Through presentations by professors and lecturers, those interested were able to find out about the structure and content of the respective degree programmes. At the same time, the relevant laboratories and stands opened their doors to demonstrate, for example, how Telematics students make a small robot dance, how aeronautical engineers take to the skies using the A320 flight simulator, or how students use virtual reality headsets to bring other worlds to life.
Once the right degree programme has been found, further questions often arise, so staff were on hand to provide information on funding your studies, study preparation, as well as applications, admissions and related matters. Departments such as Diversity Management, Family Services, the International Office, Sustainability and others also presented themselves, thus providing a comprehensive picture of TH Wildau. On the lawn between House 16 and Hall 17, visitors could stroke a ‘real’ unicorn or, nearby, sample crickets and algae as food of the future.
Unicorn and sailing boat on the campus
For the first time, the ‘Starke August’, the university’s own sailing boat, was brought onto the campus. It has since become an integral part of the university. A team comprising students, staff and members of the Wassersportclub Wildau e.V. looks after the historic cutter and organises regular sailing trips. Two solar-powered boats from TH Wildau were also on display at HIT 2026, demonstrating how solar energy can be harnessed.
“We’ve had an all-round successful University Open Day. There was a great atmosphere on our campus and lots of interesting conversations at the information stands. The degree programme presentations and laboratories also attracted many visitors to our buildings, and the activities on the campus lawn were very well received. A big thank you goes to everyone across the university who contributed so enthusiastically,” emphasises Michael Schmidt, Event Manager at TH Wildau.
“It was a fantastic HIT 2026 – interesting activities, exciting insights, plenty of hands-on stations, and happy faces – that makes all the planning and hard work of the past few weeks worthwhile. We are now looking forward with anticipation to the current application phase for the upcoming 2026/2027 winter semester, during which we hope many prospective students will choose TH Wildau,” says Juliane Bönisch, Head of Marketing Communications, Events and Alumni Management.
