24/7 Access to the University Library

24/7 Access to the University Library

With 24/7 access, university members can enter and use the university library outside of regular opening hours. For more information:

RequirementsOpen areaClose area

To be granted 24/7 access, you must be

  • a member of the university with a valid university ID,
  • already be registered as a user of the university library,
  • have attended an introduction session on 24/7 access,
  • have subsequently passed the 24/7 test, and have agreed to the terms and conditions outlined in the introduction session.

Activation & Renewal of 24/7 AccessOpen areaClose area

Activation

Our humanoid robot, Wilma, provides 24/7 introduction sessions in German and English as needed during library hours. If you want to make sure Wilma is ready for use, please check with the library staff before your visit.

After the introduction and successfully passing the 24/7 test, it usually takes three to four business days to activate your university ID card. As soon as your university ID card is activated and your email address has been added to the mailing list, you will receive a notification at your TH Wildau email address.

After activation, you must update your university ID card. Please note that the first update of your university ID card must be done at the Intrakey device in the foyer of building 13. Any subsequent updates can be done at the other Intrakey devices on campus. If the buildings on campus are locked, you can update your ID card at the update reader on the parking lot side of building 13.

Renewal

24/7 access must be renewed every semester. To do this, at the end of the semester we send an email to everyone with 24/7 access, including a link to a page where you must re-agree to the terms and conditions for 24/7 access for the new semester. Only those who actively agree to the terms within the specified timeframe will retain 24/7 access for the new semester. Otherwise, 24/7 access will be revoked.

Rules for Using 24/7 AccessOpen areaClose area

General information

The activation of the university ID card is based on a presumption of trust. If a person repeatedly violates the library’s rules of use or allows unauthorized visitors into the library outside of opening hours, we reserve the right to revoke their access privileges. Furthermore, 24/7 access is limited to the holder of the university ID card. Other individuals may not be admitted to the library.

Behavior in the library

The current library regulations are available at the information desk and can be viewed on our website.

  • According to the library regulations, large items of luggage must be locked in the coatroom lockers.
  • Food and beverages other than water may not be consumed in the library.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the library or on the balcony.
  • Please avoid causing any noise disturbances out of consideration for other users.
  • The 24/7 access authorization is valid only for you personally. Other individuals may not be admitted to the library using this authorization.

Please pay attention to other posted notices and instructions regarding current behavioral guidelines in the library and comply with them.

Inspections

Securitas and library staff conduct inspections on an irregular basis. They exercise the right to enforce house rules and are authorized to issue instructions in accordance with the library regulations.

Updating your university ID card & entering the library

Once your university ID card has been activated for 24/7 access, you must update the card at the Intrakey device in the foyer of building 13. Any subsequent updates can be made at the other Intrakey devices on campus. An Intrakey reader is located in the foyer of Hall 10 next to the women’s restroom.

  • To update your card, follow these steps: Hold your ID card against the marked area of the Intrakey reader. The device will display “Data requested.” Then hold the ID card against the marked area again until “Card updated” appears.
  • You can now enter the library after logging in with your university ID card. To do so, hold your ID card up to the doorknob of the library’s entrance door. A green light will flash briefly, and you can open the door by turning the doorknob.
  • Please close the door securely so that no unauthorized persons can enter the library.
  • You can leave the library at any time without your university ID card, as this is an emergency exit.

Please note that your ID card must be validated every day you wish to use the 24/7 access. If the outer door of hall 10 is locked, you can validate your ID card at the validation reader on the parking lot side of building 13. Please remember to leave the library after regular opening hours and re-enter the library after checking in with your university ID. Library staff will remind you of this via an announcement.

How to use the lighting control system

Once you have entered the library, you can turn on the lights. A touchpad for controlling the lights is located in the upper cabinet on the left behind the counter. Please use the touchpad to turn the lights on or off in the desired areas of the library.

Limited library access

Access to the library is limited outside of regular opening hours.

  • Journals, interlibrary loan requests, and hold requests cannot be checked out or returned.
  • The study carrels and group study rooms are not available for use.
  • Please note that the computers provided in the library shut down at midnight and do not restart until 8 a.m. the next morning. Therefore, please bring your own device.
  • The Toshiba printer/copier/scanner can also be used outside of opening hours. If you want to print something from your own device, you must first install the printer driver. You can find information on this on the University Computing Center’s website.
  • The book scanner on the second floor cannot be used outside of opening hours.

Fire

In the event of a fire, evacuate the building immediately via the emergency exits. The escape routes are marked by illuminated signs on every floor. Open the emergency exit door, go down the stairs, and exit behind the cafeteria.

First aid

If someone needs first aid, you will find a first-aid kit and a first-aid poster in the copy room. Please call emergency services immediately by dialing 112. It is also important that you let emergency services into the library, as they do not have 24/7 access. There are restrooms next to the copy room in case emergency services need running water. An emergency stretcher is also located there.

Elevator

For safety reasons, please do not use the elevator outside of opening hours.

Securitas security service

The Securitas security service is present on campus. Please contact Securitas by phone in the event of a malfunction or anything unusual in the library: 0176 16403037.

Mailing list

Your email address will be added to the mailing list. You will be notified in the event of disruptions caused by cleaning, repairs, or maintenance work, as well as by events.

Data protection

When you scan your university ID card at the doorknob of the library’s entrance door, personal data is stored. This data is used exclusively for liability and recourse claims.

Problems & Questions About 24/7 AccessOpen areaClose area

If you have questions or problems with 24/7 access, please contact the library staff.

Common issues:

You have 24/7 access, but you can’t enter the library?

Have you updated your university ID card at an Intrakey device? You must update your university ID card every day you wish to use 24/7 access. Intrakey devices are located, for example, in hall 10 on the left before the library entrance and in building 13 next to the security desk or across from the mailboxes. If the buildings are locked, you can update your ID card at the update reader outside the side entrance of building 13 on the parking lot side.

Do you have a new university ID card? Access permissions are usually transferred to the new card. If, however, you no longer have 24/7 access with your new ID card, please contact the library team.

Are you sure you’re registered for 24/7 access? Did you renew your 24/7 access for the current semester in time?
