Background and objectives
The aim of Jusoor International is to integrate trainees from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) into the German business and cultural environment. To this end, an 8-week practical phase (compulsory internship according to the German Labour Agency) is carried out in Germany, followed by a 2-week final phase in the UAE. To ensure a high level of training success, mentors with a background of experience in the German economy will accompany the companies' defined projects. In the run-up to the programme, the mentors will conduct introductory training sessions with the trainees on the content of the projects. In order to ensure the didactic and professional orientation, the contractor will accompany the mentors and review and approve the introductory training sessions. Once the projects have been completed, project presentations will be created, which in turn will be checked for quality and approved by the contractor.
The trainees present their results in presentations at a final specialist conference. The respective company partner takes part in this event. The trainees receive a confirmation of participation if their performance is sufficient.
Prof Dr Frank Gillert from the TH Wildau has been working on projects with the UAE since 2015. The starting point was a cooperation with the current partner university, the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi (HCT), which ran from 2010-2021.
After initially focussing on guest lectures and advising on the development of new curricula in Abu Dhabi, a number of logistics students from TH Wildau were given the opportunity to spend time at HCT. Internships for German students in companies in the UAE are also being considered. In 2020 and 2021 as well as 2023 and 2024, seminars and internships were organised with Emirati students in German companies in the UAE. The programme will be continued in 2025.
Tasks of the TH Wildau within the framework of Jusoor International
The successful system of practice-integrated, application-orientated training at German universities of applied sciences is still underdeveloped in the UAE. Here, the TH Wildau takes on the role of academic support and ensuring the success of the internship for all sides, i.e. for the students, the universities and the companies according to the standards that are common practice for the TH Wildau. This means, among other things, coordinating the content of the internship with the requirements of the local universities and the practical requirements of the companies in accordance with international principles. The mentors of the Jusoor International Programme as well as the supervisors in the company are supported in this respect.
