When there is a fire, we all know how to react – we leave the buildings, use emergency doors and escape routes, and meet at the assembly points.

But how are we informed and how do we behave in a confusing threat situation, such as a shooting rampage?

But how can we keep as many campus visitors as possible informed? To ensure we can respond quickly and in a coordinated manner in the event of such an emergency (which we hope will never occur), an SOS function has been integrated into our Unidos app, which is also directly linked to Webex.

The SOS function in Unidos launches on 1 May

Following a successful beta phase and valuable feedback from the university community, the time has come: on 1 May 2026, the new SOS function of the Unidos app will officially go live. It thus offers a reliable way of sending push alerts directly to the smartphones of all students and staff in the event of certain serious threats. In addition, the function consolidates important emergency information.

What is the SOS function designed for?

The SOS function is designed to provide rapid alerts and information in the event of acute danger on campus. It is triggered in specific threat scenarios where every second counts. These include:

rampages and threats of rampage,
use of weapons and hostage-taking.

In such critical moments, the new SOS function in the Unidos app helps to effectively alert everyone who has the Unidos app installed. Very important: however, the first step is always to call the police on 110. You can even do this via the SOS function.

How the SOS function works

From 1 May, all users will be able to react immediately in an emergency:

Report incidents: Reports can be sent in a matter of seconds via the SOS function. Sending a report is not anonymous.

Receive alerts: Everyone who has Unidos installed on their devices and/or is a member of the aforementioned Webex emergency group will receive a push notification, provided the function is activated on their devices.
All-clear: Only the university management can send an all-clear and will consult with the police beforehand.

To be alerted in an emergency and be able to act quickly, we recommend that all students and staff install the Unidos app and enable push notifications. The same applies to the Webex app and the necessary activation process.
