High temperatures can make daily life as a student or employee more challenging. On this page, you’ll find tips on how to stay safe in hot weather, as well as support services.

Drinking and topping up your water

Make sure you drink water regularly throughout the day. If you’re sweating heavily, mineral water or diluted apple juice with sparkling water may be a good option.

Water dispensers on campus

Clothing

No dress code

There is no set dress code for the office. Staff can adapt their clothing to suit the temperature. However, clothing should still be appropriate for the working environment.

Suitable options include, for example, light blouses or shirts – such as those made of linen – T-shirts, airy tops, dresses or short trousers.

Information for students and lecturers

Stay informed_{Open area}_{Close area}

On hot days, please pay particular attention to the latest updates regarding courses, rooms or formats. Information is usually provided via Moodle, email or the university’s usual communication channels.

Laboratory and practical sessions_{Open area}_{Close area}

Special rules may apply during field trips, work placements or in laboratories, for example regarding clothing, safety or attendance. If you are unsure, please ask the relevant teacher directly.

Online teaching_{Open area}_{Close area}

When temperatures are high, online teaching can be an alternative, provided the format is suitable for the course. Lecturers decide on the appropriate format for hot days.

Withdrawal from an examination_{Open area}_{Close area}

If you are unable to sit an examination (e.g. due to extreme heat), please make use of the option to withdraw from an examination as described in the TH Wildau Framework Regulations, or submit the form ‘Notification of inability to sit an examination – Application’, together with the relevant supporting documentation, to the Faculty Dean’s Office no later than three working days after the examination date.

When temperatures reach 30 degrees or above, staff may use the following rooms, some of which are air-conditioned and cool (for quiet individual work; not for consultations or meetings):
