CVision:Lab (innovation centre for image and video processing)
The CVision:Lab (innovation centre for image and video processing) is extensively equipped with technical devices for professional applications in image processing and video analysis. Realistic environments and complex scenarios can be simulated and analysed with different devices thanks to the wide range of systems present. The development of prototypes and professional applications is considerably simplified and improved by the various technical components. The CVision:Lab consists of the following components:
Infrastructure
- High speed Internet via special cabling and gigabit switch
- Aluminium frame for the flexible assembly of experimental setups
- 3D screen
- Touchscreen board
- LED special lighting systems
- Blackout shutters
Cameras
- Industrial cameras
- Dome cameras
- PTZ cameras
- RGB-D, time-of-flight & stereo cameras
- Thermal imaging cameras
- High-speed cameras
- Analogue cameras
- Special lenses
- Diffractive optical elements (DOE)
Computers
- High-performance server
- Computer graphics cards
- Embedded PCs
- Notebooks
- Tablets
- Data glasses
- VR glasses
- various mobile phones
Model construction
- 3D printer with support material
- 3D scanner
- 40 watt laser cutter
- CNC milling machine
The devices offer a wide selection of hardware, with which the development of robust image processing solutions and prototypes can be efficiently and innovatively configured. The creation of different lighting conditions, the complex arrangement of camera systems as well as the recording and evaluation of test results all contribute to the simulation environment. Prototypes and objects for individual simulations, e.g. object recognition, can also be created using a 3D printing and laser cutting system. Other special components in the laboratory include high-speed and thermal imaging cameras, which, thanks to their beneficial properties, deliver very accurate and clear results and can therefore also be used as control tools for image processing solutions that work with off-the-shelf cameras. The devices for creating model prototypes and the various possibilities of visual observation using different camera types provide an on-the-fly approach that considerably accelerates the generation of prototype results. Presentation technologies such as multimedia input devices, tablet PCs and data glasses are all part of the laboratory equipment to facilitate the presentation of results and to assist with e-learning.
The CVision:Lab does not only make a contribution to improving research activities at the TH Wildau, but it also offers local companies the opportunity to develop innovative solutions in image and video processing in cooperation projects and to thus achieve a crucial competitive advantage in the market. The CVision:Lab is the ideal port of call for both SMEs and large companies to realize sophisticated solutions thanks to the large amount of professional technology that is present there. The on-the-fly approach to the production of prototypes brings a high degree of added value in research, teaching, for demonstration purposes, in knowledge transfer and especially in entrepreneurship. Founder teams can very easily create their own objects using the tools for prototype construction and in doing so, test their product idea in the real world context. In particular, professional prototypes can be developed that play an important role in demonstrating a business concept so that interested parties, customers and also investors can be convinced more easily. The test and simulation facility is linked up via the university network of the TH Wildau and can therefore also be accessed by external companies using the Internet.
You can find the CVision:Lab in Hall 14 in room B102.
