Graduate school of Brandenburg’s universities of applied sciences (UAS)

Since 2024, the Brandenburg Higher Education Act has provided a further basis for improving conditions for doctoral candidates at universities of applied sciences (UAS) (link). With the granting of the right to award doctoral degrees, the Graduate school of Brandenburg’s UAS can independently conduct doctoral procedures and award doctoral degrees.

The Graduate school is jointly supported by the four state-funded UAS — University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Brandenburg University of Applied Science and Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau — as set out in a joint cooperation agreement. This gives those interested in pursuing a doctorate the option of undertaking a doctorate directly through the Graduate school, as an alternative to a cooperative doctoral procedure, without the involvement of a cooperating university. The legal framework is set out in a regulation issued by the responsible ministry (link). Doctoral degree regulations specifying the requirements for admission, the conduct of doctoral procedures and the completion of doctoral research projects are currently being prepared.

The Graduate school is organised into three academic sections: Engineering Sciences, Natural and Environmental Sciences, and Economic, Social and Media Sciences. These sections bring together professors with strong research profiles from the four participating UAS to carry out doctoral research projects.

Those interested in pursuing a doctorate can approach professors with strong research profiles to initiate a doctoral research project within the Graduate school. Once the doctoral degree regulations come into force, the doctoral procedure will be registered through the Administrative office. The Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau offers positions that include the opportunity to pursue a doctorate. In addition, professors with strong research profiles can supervise doctoral research projects within the Graduate school through their own third-party-funded research projects.

Various training opportunities, networking meetings and information events organised by the Graduate school are already available, and you are welcome to participate. The latest information about these opportunities can be found here: Link.

The Graduate school is currently being established. This page is updated regularly.
