Lunch & Learn

The new online format: in winter semester 2025/2026 on university-relevant diversity topics

To the diversity management of TH Wildau

Lunch & Learn is all about...

... grabbing lunch and new ideas all at once. Our new online format provides exciting input on various university-related topics - tailored to your lunch break. Together with various stakeholders from our (and other) universities as well as external experts, we offer a wide range of topics.

Focus on diversity-related topics

To kick off the format, we are cooperating with Ray Trautwein, our diversity manager at TH Wildau. Exciting speakers will give presentations on current topics in the field of diversity in organisations and will then be available for a moderated discussion. In other words, the format thrives on audience participation.

So tune in and take away food for thought, but also ask your questions to the speakers and moderators - and don't forget your lunch!

Who? Dr Judith Muster (Metaplan®)

When? 07. Oktober 2025, 12:30-13:30

Where? Webex

Organisations, such as administrations, universities or companies, are wild social entities. If you want to change them, you have to understand what makes them tick - and when leadership is needed. In this session, we will explore this issue in relation to diversity.

Judith Muster is a sociologist and has been working at Metaplan® since 2011, now as a partner. Judith advises on reorganisation, strategy development and project management. Judith also researches, teaches and publishes at the Chair of Organizational and Administrative Sociology at the University of Potsdam.

04. November 2025: Safe Brandenburg? Queer visibility at universities

Who? Lars Bergmann (expert for LGBTIQ+ rights | Fachstelle für geschlechtliche & sexuelle Vielfalt des Landes Brandenburg)

When? 04. November 2025, 12:30-13:30

Where? Webex

Until now, universities have been considered cosmopolitan and relatively safe places for queer people. However, queer people are increasingly experiencing discrimination and violence in the state of Brandenburg. Against this backdrop, the session examines how safe Brandenburg's universities are for queer people and how the shift to the right in society can be proactively countered in an academic context.

Lars Bergmann is an expert for LGBTIQ+ rights at Fachstelle für geschlechtliche & sexuelle Vielfalt des Landes Brandenburg. In cooperation with the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg, the Fachhochschule Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the European University Viadrina, he has already discussed the situation of queer students and employees in various formats and has been able to encourage inclusivity and diversity awareness.

2. December 2025: The power of our roots - how social background affects educational and career opportunities

Who? Valentin Burgert (Netzwerk Chancen)

When? 2. December 2025, 12:30-13:30

Where? Webex

Did you know that for every 100 children from academic families, an average of 78 start university, compared to only 25 children from non-academic families? So anyone who has made it to university as a first-time graduate has already overcome a major hurdle. But the challenges do not end there: social background also plays a major role when it comes to starting a career and climbing the career ladder. At this event, we will show you what equal opportunities look like in Germany, what typical hurdles exist on the educational and career path and what support is available.

Valentin Burgert is Project Manager for Social Impact at the non-profit organisation Netzwerk Chancen, which promotes equal opportunities and social diversity. He regularly gives lectures and workshops at universities and in companies to raise awareness of social background as a key dimension of diversity. He is also doing a PhD at the Institute for Intercultural Communication at LMU Munich.

20 January 2026: Sexual and gender diversity - Results from the German government's Ninth Ageing Report

Who? Prof Ralf Lottmann (Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences)

When? 20 January 2026, 12:30-13:30

Where? Webex

'Age has many faces' is what gerontology tells us about ageing. What does it mean to age in an increasingly diverse world? What do we (still) have in common? How do we want to ensure a dignified care in old age as a society? Do minorities such as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans* and intersex people age differently?

Ralf Lottmann is a sociologist of ageing and Professor of Health Policy at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. After working as a research assistant in the German Bundestag, he completed his doctorate at the Technical University Dresden. Since 2013, he has been researching age(ing) and diversity as well as welfare state provision. He was a member of the German government's Ninth Ageing Report Commission.
