Study objectives

The globalised economy requires air traffic systems that span the globe, transporting both people and goods quickly, safely and economically to their destination. Safety, reliability, performance and efficiency are heavily dependent on whether the system and its processes are appropriately designed, optimised and further developed. It is therefore essential to deal intensively with the functionality, safety and reliability of the technical systems and their various elements as well as the abilities and motivation of the people involved in the processes. This degree programme aims to provide students with a broad knowledge of aviation engineering, the application and operation of aircraft, airports and flight safety systems as well as their production, maintenance and repair.

Upon completion of this degree programme, graduates will be able to understand and evaluate the complex relationships between the various components within the context of the entire air traffic system and the effects they have upon one another. Graduates of the master’s programme will have a broad understanding of the various areas within aviation with a solid overview of how everything works together.

Course contents

The master’s degree programme in Aviation Engineering / Aviation Management
is divided into two areas:

  • Area 1: special topics in mathematics and science, focusing on higher mathematics, information technology, telematics and flight dynamics
  • Area 2: special management skills with a focus on air traffic management, airport and airline management as well as specialist legal and business management knowledge.

This depth of training gives graduates excellent career opportunities in the technical management areas of airlines, airport operations, handling companies as well as in areas of planning, production preparation and quality assurance with technical aviation operations and aircraft manufacturers/component manufacturers.

Further opportunities are in administrative areas of aviation, such as at the German Federal Aviation Office and in air traffic accident investigation as well as regulatory and approval authorities throughout Germany and transport ministries of the federal states.

Specific admission requirements

(1) A professional first degree comprising at least 180 credit points (CP) in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

(2) To be admitted onto this degree programme, overseas applicants must possess sufficient German language skills. This may be demonstrated with an overall grade of DSH-2 or above from the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für Hochschulen (DSH) language exam. Sufficient knowledge of the English language is also required for admission to this programme. Students must be able to follow lectures held in English and also submit their work in English.

(3) Acceptance onto this degree programme requires completion of a degree in a closely related field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Aviation Engineering, Transport Logistics, Aerospace), the study contents of which can be shown to be comparable to the bachelor’s degree programme in Aviation Engineering / Aviation Logistics at TH Wildau. If these requirements are not met, then students may be admitted on a case by case basis with support provided. The final decision lies with the Examinations Board.

(4) In accordance with the Regulations of the TH Wildau for the selection of students for degree programmes with restricted admission criteria, a motivation letter written in English will also be required as an admission requirement (in the case of this degree programme), in which the applicant describes his/her motivation for the selected degree programme or why it appeals so strongly over a minimum of two pages and a maximum of three pages. This motivation letter must be submitted on time with the other application documentation.
