Don't Panic - How to perform (like a drag king) at university
Type of event: Workshops
Venue: Webex
Organiser: Department Diversity
*** With drag artist Caine Panic ***
Drag: Superficial entertainment, men in glitter dresses and a lot of makeup performing in clubs and comedy shows. Or is it? Drag can be that (and it's a lot of fun!), but it can also be so much more. Not least of all, it can teach us how even small interventions can strengthen self confidence and resilience and improve the way you present yourself.
In this workshop, Luka Özyürek (aka Caine Panik) shares their own journey from an introverted student with social anxiety to a drag king who comes alive on stage - not despite, but with these challenges. You will learn what drag is in theory, and get to try it out in practice, no previous experience required. Can glitter relieve stress? Would it be easier to give a presentation if you were someone else? Could a stage be the perfect place for an introvert? Let's find out together!
If possible, please have the following items ready:
- One piece of clothing, an accessory or other object that makes you feel happy
- One piece of clothing, accessory or make-up that reflects someone or something you'd like to try being
The workshop will be held in spoken English. Caine Panik is also fluent in German an ready to answer your questions in both languages.
