That was our "International Afternoon" on 4 November
On 4 November, the International Office organised its first "International Afternoon" in a long time. Prof. Ulrike Tippe, President of our university, opened the traditional event, which has been taking place since the 2015 summer semester, and pointed out that Internationalization is a key role for our university.
Students from Germany, Syria, Iran, Georgia, Guatemala, Italy, Afghanistan and Hungary took the opportunity at the event to get to know each other, exchange ideas and present their countries. The more than 65 participants, in addition to the international students also numerous German students, staff and teachers, came together in the Students' Club (STUK) in House 19 to also taste the culinary specialities of the different countries. A highlight was the joint game "Loteria", which the students from Guatemala presented to everyone's delight. Even non-Spanish speaking participants were able to play along in an uncomplicated and committed way.
During the week of study coaching, a "coaching table" also offered the opportunity to make contact with the study success team. At another table, those interested could find out about the numerous offers for exchange semesters at partner universities.
Next year, another international afternoon is planned, for which the students are already making plans, because the event was an excellent "icebreaker" to get into conversation with others.
"We didn't know how the event would be received after the recent forced break due to the pandemic and were positively surprised that so many students and colleagues found their way to the STUK. We spent a wonderful afternoon with interesting conversations, lovingly prepared food and fun game ideas in the most beautiful international atmosphere! It was fun to see the cultural diversity of TH Wildau gathered together again," says Carolina Winkler, who is responsible for organising the international afternoon in the International Office, among other things.
The event was held strictly in compliance with the 2G rule.
