By awarding the Teaching Award, the TH Wildau recognizes commitment and exceptional achievements in teaching at the university. The Teaching Award 2023, which was presented on June 22, was divided into two parts this year. The winners were Prof. Rainer Stollhoff with his concept of interdisciplinary, skills-oriented teaching and the cycling team for the development of the Master's degree course of the same name.

By awarding the teaching prize, Wildau University of Applied Sciences (TH Wildau) recognizes commitment and exceptional achievements in teaching at the university. It is intended to emphasize the importance of teaching at the TH Wildau and to honor those who are outstandingly committed to excellent education and make "good teaching" visible.

Prof. Jörg Reiff-Stephan, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at TH Wildau: "Teachers are not only responsible for imparting knowledge, but are also mentors and trailblazers for our students on their educational path. The TH Wildau has always been committed to ensuring outstanding teaching in order to prepare our students for their future careers in the best possible way. The teaching award is an instrument to express our recognition and appreciation for those who continuously improve the quality of teaching through their outstanding work."

The Teaching Award awarded on June 22 was split into two parts this year. At the award ceremony, Prof. Rainer Stollhoff and the team from the Cycling in Intermodal Transport Networks programme won the Teaching Award 2023 of the TH Wildau from among numerous nominations.

Rainer Stollhoff, Professor of Business Mathematics and Statistics, received the award for his didactic achievements, dedicated support for students and his concept of interdisciplinary, skills-oriented teaching. He teaches subjects such as Machine Learning, Risk Management and Success Factor Analysis on the Business Management and European Management courses. He is also active on various university committees. The laudatory speech was held by colleague and jury member Prof. Nikola Budilov-Nettelmann from the Department of Business, Informatics and Law.

Prof. Rainer Stollhoff: "Teaching and in particular the further development of teaching are very important to me and are one of the reasons why I started at the TH Wildau. The development of new methods, such as digital and interactive tutorials or examinations, as well as their testing and evaluation are important in order to further develop teaching. This must always be done in direct exchange with the students."

Other winners of the afternoon included the team from the Master's degree course in Cycling in Intermodal Transport Networks. Prof. Christian Rudolph, Anna Bürklen, Caroline Huth, Denise Kramer, Marie Lammel, Nicolas Schüte, Simon Metzler, Martina Mittendorf, Prof. Ralf Kohlen and Prof. Klaus-Martin Melzer received the teaching award as a team for their outstanding achievements in the development, establishment and implementation of the course as well as the dedicated supervision of the students. In her laudatory speech, Prof. Heike Pospisil, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the university, praised in particular the broad network that the team has built up with administration, companies and associations in a short space of time. In addition to practical and innovative teaching, this also enables students to be directly involved in real projects in the region. Internationalization has also been expanded through cooperation with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

In his acceptance speech, course spokesperson Prof. Christian Rudolph, on behalf of the team, emphasized how important it is that a forward-looking topic such as cycling is also given greater importance in teaching and science: "In these times of increasingly scarce space and areas, it is important to strengthen alternative forms of mobility and to rethink the fairness of the distribution of space and also to create space for non-motorized road users. I would like to thank the team for their daily commitment and great ideas for developing the course. This was the only way we were able to create such high-quality course content in such a short space of time."

An independent and broad-based jury had previously assessed the nominations. It consists of the Center for Study and Teaching as well as staff and students from both departments of the university. The two winners each received 2,500 euros in prize money, which can be used individually to expand teaching. The teaching award is one element of a series of measures that create incentives for teaching staff at TH Wildau for "good teaching". This "incentive system" also includes the Teaching Day, the Wildau Teaching Talks and the initiative "Making Good Teaching Visible" and is in line with the Learning and Teaching Mission Statement of TUAS Wildau, which was developed by students and lecturers in a joint process in 2021.
