Support on the way to university - Start of the Wildau Foundation Year 2022/2023 at TH Wildau
Recently, the new cohort of the international study preparation programme Wildau Foundation Year (WFY) was officially welcomed in the Audimax of the Wildau University of Applied Sciences (TH Wildau). After introductory words from the team, the participants received all the important information about the programme. Some of them who could not be there followed the event via livestream.
The winter semester 2022/2023 has just started at TH Wildau. For interested students from abroad who wish to study in Germany, the start of their studies depends on the individual educational certificates from their home country. In some cases, they have to complete a preparatory programme before starting their studies. The Wildau Foundation Year at the TH Wildau prepares prospective students from abroad for a Bachelor's degree programme in terms of subject and language. Recently, the official welcome event for the new cohort of the Wildau Foundation Year took place. 40 participants from 15 countries, including for example India, Kazakhstan, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen and Egypt, will be supported in a two-semester programme in all steps, starting with the application procedure up to entering the study programme.
The programme team welcomed the participants to the campus of TH Wildau and explained the main programme contents. In addition, the lecturers introduced themselves and answered questions from those present. Some participants are currently still in their home country. They were able to follow the event via livestream. The lessons will also take place online for them for the time being. All the others will start in presence.
What is the programme like in concrete terms?
The participants can choose between a "T" course, which prepares them for technical-engineering degree programmes, and a "W" course, which prepares them for business degree programmes. In addition to the subject-specific lessons, German language skills are taught. The aim is to pass the German Language Test for University Admission (DSH). Specialised German and academic skills are also on the programme. Laboratory practicals provide an exciting insight into science and technology.
The participants of the Wildau Foundation Year have a diverse academic educational background. This does not always allow direct entry into the Bachelor's degree programme. The TH Wildau team checks the certificates and supports the application process. However, it is not only about professional preparation. Rather, the programme enables participants to have a smooth start in Germany, because they receive comprehensive support in official matters, for example in applying for a residence permit and much more. In addition, they get to know the university from the very beginning, take advantage of the opportunities for sports and cultural activities, the library and cafeteria, and network with former participants and students of the TH Wildau. This makes it easier for them to start their later specialised studies.
