With a welcome-back campaign, Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau welcomes its students, teaching staff and employees back to campus for the start of the winter semester, because according to current plans, the university would like to hold around 50 per cent of its courses in presence again. Especially for Bachelor's students, whether in the first, third or fifth semester, the campaign holds various opportunities for networking and learning together. Prof. Jörg Reiff-Stephan, Vice President for Studies and Learning, introduces the campaign in an interview.

Prof. Reiff-Stephan, what is the state of planning for the winter semester at TH Wildau?

The planning for the winter semester has been completed so far and the courses can be viewed in the timetable for students and teaching staff. I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this - due to the special situation - once again very complex planning task and who put a lot of commitment into the implementation of all framework conditions.

What do students and teachers need to be aware of in preparation for the winter semester?

We are planning to open up the university's attendance programme more again in the winter semester and to allow an average of 50 percent of the courses to be held at the TH Wildau - always with a view to current developments and the pandemic situation. We think that this step will give all prospective students and our teaching staff an opportunity to come together again. Of course, compliance with the hygiene concept that applies throughout the university will continue to be valid and necessary. The present concept was agreed upon with the crisis team, the staff representatives and the student representatives.

I would also like to take this opportunity to mention the Brandenburg campaign #brandenburgimpft and ask all students and teaching staff to consider getting vaccinated. According to current planning, a mobile service will also be available at our university during the semester. Take advantage of this and please be considerate of each other!

Many of our students will be able to attend attendance events for the first time in the winter semester. What can they look forward to - in addition to teaching?

It is already a special time. This winter semester, we will be able to welcome students as first-semester students, but also as third-semester students, to Wildau for the first time. And this is "for the first time" in the true sense of the word. They will come to us at the university and get to know their place of study.

We are looking forward to them ... and we will do everything we can to ensure that they feel at home here and can study safely! Support is also available to all those who are in the higher semesters and are returning to their place of study.

We have put together a welcome (back) package for this purpose: In addition to the counselling services of the TH Wildau College and the College International, students will find offers for completing their everyday studies as well as cultural offers that promote social togetherness and enable communal leisure activities.

Studying and living in the community is an important concern for us.

What do you mean by that?

Our students can expect special themes such as the STUK events or the solar boat regatta. A joint bicycle tour followed by a campus breakfast or the Wildau Runners Day also represent a part of the joint activities. Information is available on our online channels, at en.th-wildau.de/welcomeback and soon also on posters on our campus. In addition, we provide regular information via student emails or the UniDos app to keep everyone up to date. The most important thing is our students, so we appeal to them to come along. We look forward to many hours together.

Finally: What do you wish for the coming winter semester, especially with regard to studying & teaching?

Finally, I would like to wish everyone at our university all the best for the coming semester, many creative moments, joy in working together and, above all, good health. We wish our students a good start to their everyday studies and look forward to them making use of the other opportunities on offer and seeking dialogue with each other. It is an important experience in all our lives and that should be shared.
