Ceremonial awarding of certificates as part of the international study preparation programme "Wildau Foundation Year" at TH Wildau
Last week, the ceremonial awarding of certificates took place at TH Wildau for the international participants of the study preparation programme "Wildau Foundation Year". A total of 40 prospective students from 15 countries took part in the programme in 2022/2023, 31 of them successfully passed the subject examinations - another step on the way to the adventure of studying.
On 6 July 2023, the participants of the international study preparation programme "Wildau Foundation Year" (WFY) of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau (TH Wildau) received their graduation certificates. Before the ceremonial handover, those present listened to the introductory words of Claudia Steinborn-Maglóczki, Administrative Director of the Wildau Foundation Year, and Katrin Gebhardt, Academic Director of the Wildau Foundation Year.
Prospective students from all over the world
International prospective students often face the challenge that their university entrance qualification is not recognised in Germany. The WFY of the TH Wildau prepares potential applicants from abroad professionally and linguistically for studying at the TH Wildau or a partner university. They receive support in all important steps - from the application process to entering their Bachelor's degree programme.
A total of 40 participants from 15 countries, including Egypt, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Syria, Ukraine and Belarus, started the programme in September 2022.
In three groups, two of them technically oriented and one economically oriented, they completed numerous lessons in various subjects, including German as a foreign language, technical German for technology or business, mathematics, basics of physics and technology or basics of business as well as computer science, with a total of 21 lecturers for two semesters and received interdisciplinary workshop offers in the soft skills of intercultural training and presentation techniques. In addition, the participants were already able to attend lectures of selected Bachelor's degree programmes at TH Wildau and get a taste of practical experience during laboratory days in spring 2023. In addition, excursions to Berlin and Brandenburg, participation in extra-curricular events of the university, such as the International Afternoon, the Language Tandem Meeting and the University Information Day, were just as much a part of the everyday programme as the joint Christmas party in the student club of the TH Wildau or the barbecue at the end of the programme. This gave the participants the opportunity to get to know the university and the region better even before they started their studies.
31 participants of the year group have successfully passed the subject examinations. With their final certificate and a certificate for the German Language Test for University Admission (DSH), they can now officially apply for a place at TH Wildau or a partner university.
"The graduates of the Wildau Foundation Year 2022/2023 can be proud of themselves. They now hold their certificates in their hands and are well prepared for studying in Germany. We are pleased that many of them will also apply and enrol at TH Wildau. On behalf of the university, I wish all participants every success for their future path and look forward to seeing them again on campus," sums up Claudia Steinborn-Maglóczki.
