InSeKT

The project is developing a hybrid approach to edge-fog-cloud computing in order to distribute data processing tasks in the most effective way for the respective application scenario.

German version

Development of intelligent sensor edge technologies

Companies typically use AI via centralised cloud servers, which results in long data paths and limited real-time capabilities. Edge computing solves these problems by enabling data processing closer to the endpoints (e.g. sensors). A hybrid edge-fog-cloud approach allows for flexible, decentralised distribution of the computing load, reduces delays and better protects data. Challenges include the limited performance of edge devices and the complex distribution of AI tasks across different nodes. The InSeKT project investigates and addresses these challenges in a practical manner.

The funded project is scheduled to run for a period of three years. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF/EFRE).

The following objectives have been defined for the period from 2025 to 2028:

  •     Establishing the specifications of the interfaces.
  •     Setting up a measurement station and characterising sensors for data generation.
  •     Developing the architecture of the hardware for edge processing.
  •     Developing a measurement strategy and designing testability.
  •     Developing and testing new AI models for intelligent sensors for data evaluation.
  •     AI system integration and demonstrator setup.
