Development of innovative technologies for cost-effective elimination of trace pollutants in wastewater
The overarching goal of the ERASER project is to remove biologically recalcitrant compounds that enter our drinking water through wastewater. To achieve this, a research group at the University of Potsdam has developed a new purification technology. In this process, photoactive nanoparticles collect visible light to facilitate the destruction of pollutant molecules. Initially, the project aims to find a new carrier material for immobilizing the nanoparticles and build a prototype purification unit that can be integrated into existing facilities.
The funding project is planned for a duration of four years and is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).
For the period from 2025 to 2028, the following objectives have been defined:
- Development of a reference system
- Development and testing of a new carrier material for nanoparticle immobilization
- Establishment of a mobile laboratory demonstrator using the new carrier material for exhibitions and conferences
- Creation of a simulation software and development of a prototype
- Design of a sensor for detecting trace pollutants using various measurement methods
- Integration of filters and sensors into the overall system
